Vintage Tibetan Handmade Hair Pins
                                Ref: ET-0208-003
This is a pair of pretty handmade silver tone single pronged hairpins made by ethnic Tibetan tribe’s people living in what is now China. They exhibit the great tradition of hand workmanship of the Tibetan peoples and are made in delicate openwork filigree.
Each hairpin has a different style but they both show formalised representations of butterflies, which are favourite motifs in Oriental and Asian art. Butterflies are symbolic of the transience of human life.
These ornaments are made from a non-tarnishing alloy popularly called Tibetan Silver. However the metal does not contain any genuine silver, or is of far too low a grade to qualify as sterling, so is something of a misnomer.
